In the Kindergarten Classroom

Your child will focus on six key learning areas (KLA‘s).

There is a strong focus on English and mathematics in Kindergarten classrooms to ensure your child learns foundational skills. These lessons are fun, engaging and appropriately challenging for your child. More information on these key areas will be provided at the parent information session at the start of the Kindergarten school year. Throughout the year Kindergarten students also participate in other school events such as athletics and cross-country carnivals, Harmony day, NAIDOC week, and 100 days of Kindergarten.

Best Start Assessment

Best Start assessments are one-on-one interviews that teachers have with each new Kindergarten student. It gives us the chance to get to know your child, assess their learning strengths and have a better understanding of how best to support their transition to school. Best Start Assessment will take place during school hours in Term 1.

First Day of Kindergarten

Students will attend their first day of Kindergarten on Monday 2nd February 2026.   For the first week of school, Kindergarten students are to arrive at 9:00am under the cola to meet their buddies and Kindergarten teachers. In the afternoons, students and teachers will gather under the cola from 2:30pm for pick-up, with opportunities for parent check-ins and to receive additional information to support your child’s smooth start to school.

Buddies

Our Year 5 buddies play an important role in welcoming our new Kindergarten students. Children will meet their buddies during the Kindy orientation and reconnect with them again at the start of 2026. Buddies help new students feel more relaxed by providing friendly faces they can recognise around the school. They take their role very seriously, and everyone is always very excited to build these special friendships
